In France I bought a sewing machine when I thought that we were “surely” staying. I made a few things, but didn’t get as much done as I had hoped due to lack of supplies. Then I sold that machine and we moved back here and I had to wait for my sewing machine to return to me. I adore this machine. So when it finally returned to me from a long hiatus at my mom’s house, I was delighted. My sewing room is now brimming with project planning and dreaming, fabric matching and sketches.
Only problem is that I have no storage or organization so things are a bit chaotic. These boxes are filled with art books, craft books and photographs. If any of you know how to organize well and would like to leave me a few suggestions I would welcome them eagerly!
So what projects am I working on? First and foremost I have a three year old about to turn four, in like four days. I need to make her a new birthday crown, then Halloween is coming up and I have costumes to make and there are curtains to be sewn for the girls room.
The last and most exciting is that I am opening up my Olive and Owl shop again. It should be open in time for the November shopping season. I’m taking a totally different approach to the store this time and will focus only on handmade kitchen things. Think handmade goods for your hippie kitchen. I’ll have a preview up soon with some of the new items: patchwork hot pads, oven mitts, handle covers for your dutch ovens, reusable snack bags and bread bags. It’s going to be good people! My goal is to raise enough money to make it the Sqwam Art Workshops. I want to go like a fish to water and if I can raise even part of the money by making things, then I’ll be happy. After that it will be making just for fun.
*****Finally I want to put a call out for post submissions for next months feature Pumpkin Tuesdays. I will feature a new pumpkin recipe every Tuesday through the month of November. If you would like to submit your favorite recipe please use the contact form here telling me your idea.
