The weekend

homemade toast and jamThis weekend started off with welsh rarebit then moved on to packing a suitcase for D. Saturday saw us waking early, eating breakfast and taking D to the airport perfectly on time. No tears were shed as we wished him well on his business trip to the French Riviera. The rest of Saturday I cleaned out the kitchen while the girls played around my feet, occasionally helping me to pour ancient spices into the trash. The day ended in the easiest bedtime ever. I spent most of the night with a needy V who woke me up at midnight, 2, 4 and 5 and then just as V fell asleep again, S woke up. I tried to start Sunday right with homemade ciabatta and homemade jam but both girls were feeling the absence of papa and so they were mostly cranky all day. I got to talk to a lovely lady from Nova Scotia on the phone, without children screaming, for as long as I needed.  I gave away all my gardening things, house plants and pots to a good friend looking to start gardening and talked to D who had arrived at his hotel finally late in the afternoon our time. It was surreal to talk to him and know he was thousands of miles away. Feeling so thankful he made it safe and sound. Sunday ended with a late late afternoon nap for all three of us out of pure exhaustion, sprouted legumes with feta for dinner and a late bedtime filled with more stories then I usually have the patience for.

How was your weekend?

  1. I didn’t realize he was off to France so soon, glad he made it safely. Sorry about the late night wake ups, I so remember those days and don’t wish to see them again. Hang in there.

It seems like it’s a very frequent thing the multiple wake ups at night. S did it too up until six months ago. I am so thankful every time I go into their room to check on V and see that S is still asleep. I know now that it will pass. Just hard to finally fall asleep and then have the baby wake up again. But you know….

I remember those days of going solo, which was not fun! I hope everyone sleeps better and that you get your rest :) The bread sounds delicious!!

The bread is stellar! I like to make the ciabatta on a weekly basis without the truffle salt, only this time I was cleaning out the pantry and found and figured why not? the bread needs salt let’s go for it!

Single mama-ing is always so much more difficult than it theoretically seems that it should be. That bread looks perfect though!

    • KC says:

It really is. I don’t know why because I am a stay at home mama so I’m used to doing so many things on my own. But it’s that relief in the late evening at the witching hour that is so sorely needed.

It seems to be just fine right now. Luckily we planned to go visit my mother who kindly flew out here from NM and is driving with us back to her house.

  7. Safe travels all around! Enjoy the time at your Mom’s.
